Titanic Tourist Submersible Still Missing – LIVE Breaking News Coverage (Search Updates)
A submersible vessel that takes tourists to the Titanic wreckage is still missing with five people on board. Around 11 hours of oxygen are left. Get the latest on the missing Titanic tourist sub in our LIVE breaking news coverage.
The tourist submersible, called the Titan, is operated by OceanGate Expeditions, which offers paid tours taking people underwater to view the remnants of the Titanic. The submersible began a dive down to the Titanic on Sunday morning and lost contact with its support ship an hour and 45 minutes into the dive. Five people are on board the Titanic sub. The U.S. Coast Guard is now operating a search and rescue mission for the submarine around 400 miles off the coast of Newfoundland, Canada (900 miles east of Cape Cod). OceanGate Expeditions says the Titan Titanic submersible has 96 hours of oxygen for life support (currently there are around 11 hours left). The Coast Guard says that underwater sounds were heard yesterday and today in the area of the search for the sub, and multiple reports say the sounds included banging noises, but so far the search for the submarine has not found anything.
