But in his very next fight at UFC 25, he would challenge Wanderlei Silva for the vacant title and win via unanimous decision to become the 2nd ever light heavyweight champion.
 
He would go on to defend the belt for a then-record of 5 times, along the way defeating rival Ken Shamrock and building his reputation as a dislikable character.
