Stolen Mercedes Recovered: Owner Arrested, Driver Released
#CrimeCamNow
In a dramatic turn of events at Dresden Park in Chamblee, Georgia, on September 27, police officers made a startling discovery when their automatic license plate reader alerted them to a stolen vehicle in the vicinity. Acting swiftly, the officers approached the Mercedes G Wagon and successfully placed the driver in handcuffs without incident.
As the officers secured the scene, their attention turned to a Honda SUV parked nearby. The driver, startled by the sight of police with guns drawn, initially seemed prepared to flee. However, upon further investigation, it was determined that the individual had no connection to the stolen G Wagon and was promptly released.
Meanwhile, another individual who had been present in the park attempted to evade capture by fleeing on foot. However, the officers quickly apprehended the suspect and brought him back to the scene for questioning. To their surprise, it was discovered that he was the actual owner of the stolen Mercedes G Wagon.
When interviewed, the driver of the G Wagon maintained his innocence, claiming that he had no knowledge of the vehicle's stolen status. He explained that he had picked up the car from a nearby mechanic shop at the request of the owner, who had arranged to meet him at Dresden Park.
However, a search of the stolen SUV yielded an additional surprise—a gun, also reported stolen. The driver insisted that he had purchased the firearm for $500 and was unaware of its stolen status. Consequently, he was released without facing any charges related to the stolen vehicle or the gun.
Conversely, the owner of the G Wagon found himself facing legal consequences. Despite possessing a bill of sale and insisting that he had purchased the car in a non-drivable condition for $4,000, the fact that the vehicle was reported stolen led to his arrest. He was charged with obstruction of law enforcement officers and taken to the Dekalb County jail.
