Finally I can get back to work on this daunting, massive, project. Sometimes the only way out is through, and thats going to be my mantra over the next couple weeks.

First up is the manipulator arm, or robot arm that will replace the clunky pick and place mechanism I had before. Using stepper motors and a passive gripper system, inverse kinematics transform the position of the end effector into angular positions of the joints. This basically means I can tell the robot where to go and it will now go there. Very useful for doing things like placing figurines onto conveyor belts.
