I Ate a Freezer Burned Steak

My freezer is a gift and a curse. It allows me to extend the shelf life of food but I inevitably end up forgetting about things I’ve frozen for “way too long”. But what is “way too long”?

I’ve often heard that 1 year is the maximum something should be frozen. But after going through my freezer I found two steaks that were frozen for over two years, and they weren’t just any old steaks. The one in this video is a bone in American wagyu chuck tomahawk (it might look familiar if you’ve been following me for a while). To add insult to injury, the seal on the vacuum bag broke and it was covered in freezer burn.

Either way, I cooked it up and the results were surprisingly amazing. Having a fresh side by side comparison would have been better, but it was still extremely juicy, tender, and definitely not rotten in any way. Long term freezing isn’t necessarily ideal, but it doesn’t mean you should be throwing out steaks!
