"A California school district's workshop on critical race theory became chaotic after a woman apparently told a Black man to leave the country—and the board's president called for the man to be removed.
The event came after the Temecula Valley Unified School District's governing board voted to ban the teaching of critical race theory in schools. The decision in December sparked protests from students, educators and community members.
Critical race theory is an academic framework developed by legal scholars that examines America's history through the lens of racism. Although education officials have pointed out that it is not taught in public schools, it has become a catch-all phrase to describe concepts that some conservative legislators find objectionable.
Eighteen states have imposed bans and restrictions on the teaching of critical race theory or on how teachers can discuss racism and sexism since January 2021, according to Education Week."
