A CAT DIESEL!? Caterpillar 3126 7.2L Turbo Diesel Engine Teardown! Part 1: Lets Take The Top Off!
Is this the first teardown you've seen on this channel? There are nearly 120 more I've filmed over the last two years. You can find them here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLIYwo7JlrVQVg32JL-r4H7dfMxMqzWlVa
Over the last week, I've talked about this week's teardown being out of the box. Well. Its the engine out of a box truck.
A Caterpillar 3126 7.2L Turbodiesel inline 6. This particular engine is out of box truck with over 300K Miles! It was replaced because it ran very poorly, and a mechanic tried swapping some parts around, and eventually condemned it saying two of the cylinders didn't look so great.
The 3126 was a widely used engine in everything from school busses to tow trucks. Power outputs range from 170-330hp, this particular engine is rated at 210hp.
This is Part 1, where I dismantled the top of the engine. Pull the head to reveal the actual condition of the bores we can see. The replacement engine cost the owner of the box truck nearly 8K! Lets hope this wasn't replaced for no reason.
Why am I doing this? I own and run a full service auto salvage business called Importapart. Part of our model is dismantling core or bad engines and salvaging the good parts. We do not rebuild engines, merely supply parts to those that do.
For parts or to peruse our inventory you can visit www.Importapart.com or email us at [email protected].
I hope you enjoyed this teardown, stay tuned for part 2 sometime next week!
As always, I love all of the comments, feedback and even the criticism.
Catch you all on the next one!
