By the time this film came out in 1991, all of the adult cast from the original TV show had died except for John Astin, who played Gomez in the show. In fact, he ended up outliving Raul Julia who played Gomez in this film. Raul died in 1994. John Astin also outlived Ken Weatherwax, who played Pugsley in the show. Ken died in 2014. Another way they tied it into the series is when Gomez speaks about how it’s been 25 years since Fester disappeared. The movie premiered in 1991, and that makes it 25 years since the show was canceled in 1966.
