Rep. Lance Gooden (R-TX) endorsed former President Trump for president in 2024 on Tuesday, saying he believes Trump is the best candidate to defeat the Democrats. Gooden, a Republican who represents Texas's 5th congressional district, said in a statement that he made the decision after "careful consideration" and a "positive meeting" with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who is also considering a presidential run.
"I have respect for Gov. DeSantis and his accomplishments as governor, but I believe President Trump is the best candidate based on his record and commitment to putting America first," Gooden said.
Gooden's endorsement is a significant development in the 2024 presidential race. It is the first time that a sitting member of Congress has endorsed Trump for president.
